I am more than happy for being given the opportunity to contribute to this amazing work. It is about the conservation of amphibians in tropical Africa, and my part covers the Western Indian Ocean islands - the Seychelles, Mascarenes, and Comoros. Thanks to Mark-Oliver Rödel for inviting me, and thanks to Simon Maddock, Jim Labisko, and many others for their support! The book was published here: https://www.chimaira.de/

This is how I met my friend Rémy Eudeline back in 2014! He wrote me that I was wrong in writing that the Comoros worm snake did not occur in Mayotte. Turned out I was right - it was a new species! We now described it and named it Madatyphlops eudelini in honor of Rémy's family name!
Hawlitschek O., Scherz M.D., Webster K.C., Ineich I., Glaw F.: Morphological, osteological, and genetic data support a new species of Madatyphlops (Serpentes: Typhlopidae) endemic to Mayotte Island, Comoros Archipelago. The Anatomical Record, online first:

Back to the Western Indian Ocean, this time to Reunion Island, for an amazing conference: Island Biology 2019! It covers all aspects of the field in a unique setting. The best thing about Reunion Island is that it's part of Africa, which allows many scientists from this continent to participate. My talk will be a review of my work in the Comoros.

Fighting invasive reptiles by eating them

What better way of fighting invasive reptiles than eating them? Killing two birds with one stone is also the title of the talk I and my student Kathleen Webster gave at the EAT Festival of Munich's new Biotopia museum. A creative, integrative, and potentially efficient method of fighting invasives – my impression was that the audience applauded!

Back to the islands again! I am visiting the Comoros Archipelago with my fellow herpetologists Ashwini Mohan and Kathleen Webster to support their respective research projects into Phelsuma geckos and Trachylepis and Flexiseps skinks. Thanks to the Comoran people for all their support and kindness they have provided in all my travels there.
