Molecular clocks are a complicated issue. This image explains the molecular clock method in a simplified way using the example of our Ebenavia paper. Available in English (here) and German (here).
In this joint data release of the DNA barcoding projects of Germany (BFB and GBOL), Austria (ABOL), and Switzerland (SwissBOL) we publish more than 750 barcode sequences of almost all species of crickets and grasshoppers of these countries. Notably, some species cannot be distinguished by their barcodes - we hope this makes for some interesting future research!
Get the paper here! We also have a (German) press release: Bedrohte Artenvielfalt kennt keine politischen Grenzen: Internationales Forscherteam erfasst DNA-Barcodes europäischer Heuschrecken Wissenschaftler aus Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz haben in einem Kooperationsprojekt gemeinsam fast 80% der mitteleuropäischen Heuschrecken (Orthoptera) genetisch erfasst und stellen deren Gencodes in einer frei zugänglichen Online-Bibliothek zur Verfügung. Ihre Ergebnisse veröffentlichten die Forscher Anfang dieser Woche. Read it here!
